Garry Puckett coming to Rotorua

      NEWS RELEASE

  Monday 4 October 2010

Sixties and seventies music legend Garry Puckett coming to Rotorua

ROTORUA 04.10.10:

American music legend Garry Puckett is coming to Rotorua to perform one show, on November 22 in the newly upgraded Civic Theatre.

As lead for the band Gary Puckett and the Union Gap he had one of the most distinctive voices of the sixties' and seventies' international music scene with a string of American Billboard top hits.

In 1968 alone they produced six consecutive gold records, and sold more than any other performers in the world, including The Beatles.

The band’s enduring hits include Young Girl; Lady Willpower; Woman, Woman; This Girl is a Woman Now; Over You; Keep the Customer Satisfied; Don’t Give it to Him; and Home.

Gary Puckett has appeared on more than 30 US network television shows and in a command performance at the White House for the US president, and Princess Diana and Prince Charles.

‘Gary Puckett and The Union Gap’s Greatest Hits’ album remains one of CBS’ best selling collector series albums today.

The Union Gap disbanded in 1971 but Puckett has continued to perform around the world with his own backing band, to critical acclaim .

Events & Venues Rotorua general manager Peter McLeod said that Rotorua was lucky to attract Puckett to Rotorua as he is only playing one other city in New Zealand, and that’s Auckland.

He said the recent major upgrade of the city’s Civic Theatre had helped secure the show.

“Because this is Garry Puckett's first ever visit to New Zealand and as we're one of only two venues in the country he's playing, we expect to see fans coming to Rotorua from other towns and cities for what will be a great night of musical nostalgia and good old fashion rock.

“Tickets to the show should make nice early Christmas presents, especially for those who enjoy reliving the music of that magical sixties and seventies era," said Mr McLeod.

Tickets are now on sale from the Ticketmaster outlet at Rotorua Convention Centre, online from www.ticketmaster.co.nz or by phone on 0800 111 999.
