MOTHER of all jet boats unveiled at Blenheim Boat Show

In a New Zealand first, MOTHER Energy Drink and local boating legend, John Derry, were proud to unveil the country’s most powerful jet boat at the Blenheim Boat Show today.

One of only two in the world, the custom-made MOTHER Energy Drink sponsored vessel is the first New Zealand owned turbine powered jet boat. With a turbine helicopter engine and 1270 foot-pounds of torque, the 1350 horsepower boat can reach in excess of 200kmph.

John Derry, who is also the boat’s owner, says the MOTHER jet boat is all about delivering massive amounts of energy and MOTHER Energy Drink delivers a MOTHER of an energy hit, so the partnership is the perfect match.

John Derry says he named the world-class MOTHER jet boat in tribute to his father, who coincidently was the first New Zealander to break 160kmph in the water.

“The MOTHER jet boat is named “Going Places” after my father’s record breaking boat. Hopefully with a MOTHER of an energy hit behind me, I will break some records too!”

John Derry is a regular jet boater, with a family history steeped in the sport. His father was the first New Zealander to break 160kmph in the water and got John involved in jet boating from a very early age.

After 35 years of boating with the family and 12 years of racing, John’s had great success in one day events, but is still chasing a marathon win – something he hopes will be possible with this new boat.

Married with an eight-year-old daughter, Chloe, and new baby due in November, John Derry’s family enjoy boating in the Marlborough Sounds, putting the next generation in good stead to continue the Derry family’s legacy on the water.

History of Boat:
Where it came from, first of its kind in NZ This is the first running NZ owned turbine jet boat on the water. There are currently only two boats of its kind running in the world. The boat was custom built in Canada to John’s specs and fitted out by the team at Bratt Jet Inc. of Sylvan Lake, Alberta.
