Young gun Wellingtonian vows to step it up a gear
Wellington ’s Jamie McNee is committed to racing from the front as he heads into his fifth year in the national motorsports championships.
Jamie’s season begins with the first round of the National Championship at Pukekohe this weekend, where Jamie will be racing a Mini in the Production car class.
“I’m really looking forward to racing the Mini this weekend. The door handle to door handle racing will be great preparation for the rest of my season.”
Jamie, who won a national karting title at 10-years-old, began racing in the national championship five years ago in a Formula First. He then completed two years in Formula Ford and a year in Formula Toyota.
Jamie is aiming to race in the Toyota Racing Series again this season when it starts in January – with the final deal being put together this week.
The Wellington College student says he definitely wants a long-term career in motorsport, but is also intending to study law and accounting at Victoria University next year.
The Moneyworks Mini is owned by Brent Melhop and Marty Hunt and run by Wilford Motorsport. Sponsors are accounting software company Moneyworks, graphic designers Typeface and accountancy firm Business Knowledge.
