Local Children Encouraged to Enter Subway MoreFM
Ironkids Summer Series
The official launch
of a new sporting series for local children will kick off in
Wanaka on Sunday, 5th December with the Subway MoreFM
Ironkids Duathlon.
Sponsored by Subway and More FM, the Duathlon series features three races in total to be held in Wanaka, Alexandra and Queenstown over the 2011 summer. More FM Promotions Manager, Henry Youngman, says the new initiative is an opportunity for local children to participate in healthy activities and to enjoy the spirit of camaraderie at the each event.
“ We would love it if the local kids got amongst this series and attempted to race at all three events but ultimately this is about having a go. Subway have come on board as the naming right sponsor which is a great partnership with More FM and Julian Field, local owner of Subway Wanaka and the new Subway Cromwell is right behind supporting local families.”
The first Duathlon in the series will take place on Wanaka’s picturesque waterfront on Sunday 5th December. Children can enter one of four age categories; Weenies for 6 to 7 year olds, Weenies for 8 to 9 year olds, Junior for 10 to 11 year olds and Intermediate for 12 to 14 year olds. The course consists of a bike section followed by a run with a specially marked transition area where teams can tag their other team members and spectators can watch the action.
Entry includes a special race T-shirt to be worn on the day and Mr Youngman says the race is achievable for all levels of fitness. “ We encourage the kids to be competitive and try to do their best but its really about having fun. The race course is designed for kids of all abilities to have a go and enjoy being out with their friends and families. We will be awarding medals to place getters in each category and there will be some great spot prizes up for grabs.
The Queenstown Duathlon will be held on Sunday 6th March 2011 and the Alexandra Duathlon will be on Sunday 3rd April 2011.
Entry forms are available from MoreFM, Subway, local schools and online at morefm.co.nz
