The Clown's Smile is a dark, rising piece about the games courting couples play.

The Email from the Antipodes is a lighter number concerning friendship over distance, and gratitude for couches.

Lake says of the new releases: "I've had a difficult relationship with these songs. I'm fond of them, but they didn't fit the overall 'vibe' of the Rise album, so I left them on the shelf. But then I was exercising in the lounge and saw them on my shelf. I thought to myself, there is gold here, I must share it."
