New Zealand Music on the World’s Balcony

The Best of BalconyTV Auckland DVD

New Zealand Music on the World’s Balcony

Satellite Media, Smokefree NZ and Rip It Up are proud to present the release of The Best of BalconyTV Auckland DVD free with Rip It Up magazine’s gigantic summer issue in stores now.

BalconyTV was founded in June 2006 by three friends who decided to start a daily internet broadcast from their apartment balcony in Dame Street, Dublin. Since then BalconyTV has gone on to become a leading daily online viral music show that features bands, musicians and other variety acts on balconies around the world.

The daily show became music dominated organically through the growth of bands and musicians applying to perform on the balcony. As the bands embedded performances on their websites and social media spaces, the viral nature of the show led to huge international interest in the BalconyTV concept.

BalconyTV now operates in 14 worldwide locations including Dublin, London, Brighton, Hamburg, Prague, Poznan, Rennes, Nashville, New York, Paris, Austin, Toronto, Edmonton, and Auckland, with more locations on the way.

Last month BalconyTV celebrated its 15th million video view mark with 7,000,000 video views for the past year and 1,000,000 views in 43 days.
Satellite Media brought BalconyTV to our shores earlier this year to help make New Zealand music a force on the world stage, and already they have a DVD full of world-class New Zealand acts – filmed live on a balcony above Chapel Bar in Ponsonby.

The Best of BalconyTV Auckland DVD includes 15 of the best performances of the last year with artists including Artisan Guns, The Earlybirds, I Am Giant, Pistol Youth and Young Sid.
The show’s host Phil Bell (aka DJ Sir-Vere) says; “Balcony TV lets us show off our NZ flavour all around the world and people are taking notice! There’s been so many great artists perform already, so we thought ‘why not make a Best Of’?”.

“We’ve been really delighted with the calibre of the artists we’ve had on the Auckland show. They all know how to perform unplugged, and since starting we’ve really raised the bar for BalconyTV worldwide”, says Nikki Streater, General Manager of Satellite Media.

The full list of artists appearing on The Best of BalconyTV Auckland DVD includes;

All up, it’s been a busy first year for the team at BalconyTV Auckland. Kicking off in February 2010, over 100 New Zealand artists have graced the balcony, and with an extensive list of emerging and highly profiled artists in the waiting, things are looking very bright for the al fresco online show.

The Best of BalconyTV Auckland DVD can be picked up for free with the December/January issue of Rip It Up magazine in
stores now.
