Locally Shot Film Goes Straight
to No. 1 at the NZ Box Office
YOGI
BEAR, everyone’s favorite pic-a-nic
basket-stealing bear, has topped the New Zealand box office
in its opening weekend.
Based on the classic Hanna-Barbera cartoon and shot entirely in New Zealand, the film has taken the coveted top spot, proving it is currently the first choice film for parents in the competitive school holiday season.
While Yogi and Boo Boo (voiced by Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake) are the stars of the movie, the beautiful New Zealand scenery certainly gives a spectacular performance. Live action sequences for the film were shot on location at the Whakamaru Reserve in the North Island, within the Auckland CBD for the city scenes (with internal scenes shot in Mayor Len Brown’s office) and Woodhill State Forest saw Jellystone Park recreated in all it’s splendor. New Zealander’s also made up much of the film crew, in addition to on-camera extras and actor’s doubles being locally sourced.
YOGI BEAR, a live-action/CG animated adventure in 3D, stars Anna Faris (“Observe and Report”), Tom Cavanagh (NBC’s “Ed,” “How to Eat Fried Worms”), TJ Miller (“Cloverfield”) and Andrew Daly (“The Informant!”) with the voices of Dan Aykroyd (“Driving Miss Daisy”, “Ghostbusters”) as Yogi Bear and Justin Timberlake (“The Social Network”) as Boo Boo. The film is directed by Eric Brevig and produced by Donald De Line and Karen Rosenfelt.
YOGI BEAR is a Sunswept Entertainment/De Line Pictures Production, in association with Rhythm & Hues. YOGI BEAR is a Warner Bros. Pictures release and is distributed in New Zealand by Roadshow Film Distributors.
