Darwin Deez Announces NZ Shows

From New York to New Zealand, the big Apple’s latest offering from the esteemed anti-folk stomping ground of NYC East village, Darwin Deez, is hitting our shores for two shows only.

Playing Auckland’s The Kings Arms on May 16th and Wellington’s Bodega on May 17th, Darwin Deez’s reputation for staggeringly energetic and unfettering joyous shows make this a performance not to be missed.

Describing his songs being “a little bit “Thriller”, a bit Dismemberment Plan”, Deez’s off kilter slices of perfect pop are both deeply infectious and undeniably affecting. His songs will both touch that raw nerve and have you reaching for your dancing shoes through a careful combination of gently witty, slightly melancholic and always shimmering pop.

And while Deez is sure to make you get your groove on, he’s also known to break into spontaneous bouts of synchronized dancing mid-song himself.

“Well, I love to dance”, Deez laughs. “Michelle, my bandmate is a tap dancer, and I’m secretly pretty good at it as well, so we take it up another notch onstage. But when we play live, the bottom-line is, we want all the people outside the room to come in, and we want the people inside the room to really enjoy themselves. I want people to get into it the way audiences at the Sidewalk Cafe got into shows, people would tell jokes onstage, and if you told them to clap, they’d clap”.

Darwin Deez brings together everything a pop star should be: a vibrant personality both on and offstage, with the ability to write whip-smart, life affirming and heart-swelling songs. One to watch, embrace Deez before everybody else does.
