"See and be Seeded"

“See and be seeded” is the theme at Hollard Gardens, Kaponga, this weekend with two free public events of interest to any gardener or garden-lover:

On Saturday (5 March), there will be a 90-minute guided walk through the 4.5 ha property starting at 10am. While inspecting the gardens, participants will hear about the property’s history and get details of some of the stand-out plants, planned winter projects and approaches to succession planting.

On Sunday (6 March), a two-hour workshop from 2pm will focus on tips and techniques for seed saving. Participants are encouraged to bring their own seeds for an informal swap stall, and containers to carry seeds.

“Saturday’s event, which is part of the New Plymouth District Council guided walks programme, will include the amazing story of garden founder Bernie Hollard, whose passion lives on in what he created.

“Sunday’s event will be a real hand-on experience. Previous seed-saving workshops have been very popular. It’s a chance to share knowledge and tips, and it’s fantastic when people bring seeds to share.”

The weekend guided walk and workshop are part of a year-round series of free events at Hollard Gardens, Tupare and Pukeiti, the three Regional Gardens owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region.

All three properties are open daily and entry is free.
