Chatham Is Moriori are undergoing a cultural renaissance

The Moriori of the Chatham Islands are undergoing a cultural renaissance.

On a small island 800km to the south-east of New Zealand there stands a life-sized statue of a man whose memory embodies a tragic aspect of New Zealand history. He is now remembered by his anglicised name Tommy Solomon. He died in 1933 and was thought to have been the last full-blooded Moriori. "In Conversation with Noel Cheer" on Triangle/Stratos Television discusses the re-birth of the Moriori of Rekohu with his grandson, Maui Solomon.
