NZ Comedy Industry seeks stars of the future
The 2011 Raw Comedy Quest, the annual search for NZ's funniest new face, kicked off at The Classic in Auckland last night, Mon 7 March, to a sold out house and a stage packed with talent. First appearances indicate that the standard of 'raw comedians' is on the rise.
Over the next 7 weeks aspiring comedians will make their stand in the hope of making it to the final, winning the glory and sharing in $2000 of prize money.
Most importantly it is a fast track to joining the ranks of local comedians, the cream of which are in increasing demand as performers, presenters, writers, and voices on television, radio , in print and , of course, on stage on the local live pro comedy circuit.
Since it began 16 years ago hundreds of Kiwi's have made a stand at the Raw Comedy Quest, a highlight of the annual New Zealand International Comedy Festival.
Some have gone on to enjoy continued success as part time and full time performers. Many others have discovered that all they are good for is a few jokes at the office party. But most importantly all of them have faced human kinds greatest fear - 'Public Speaking', with the added expectation of being funny.
So once again the mic is 'open' at THE CLASSIC and ready for some RAW COMEDY, so if you think you're funny then stand-up and be counted.
The official heats for the RAW COMEDY QUEST are every Monday from March 7th to April 18th at The Classic.
Semi-finals will be held on Sun 1st and Sun 8th May at the CLASSIC with the Grand Final on Sun 15 May at the Comedy Chamber, Auckland Town Hall, the EDGE.
New Faces call Scott Blanks on 09-373 4321 to register.
