V48hours Is All About U
V48HOURS and U announced today an exclusive partnership that will bring together interactive TV and filmmaking.
U has been named the official broadcast partner for the iconic V48HOURS Furious Filmmaking contest. TVNZ’s groundbreaking new channel, which launched on 13th March 2011, will be bringing audiences all the exciting action from New Zealand’s greatest filmmaking competition.
V48HOURS attracts
thousands of people across the country to write, shoot, cut
and hopefully survive making a short film in 48 hours.
Registrations for V48HOURS are open now on www.v48hours.co.nz
TVNZ are proud to be a part of the action; “It’s great to be working with V48 Hours,” says Maria Mahony, Channel Manager for U, “It is an incredible project that forces contestants to think outside the box and live in the now – like many of the shows on U. It will be exciting to see what people come up with.”
U is the first channel in New Zealand to integrate online social networking with broadcast content, working closely with Facebook to create a truly interactive show. As New Zealand’s most innovative youth channel, U was the obvious choice as the broadcast partner for V48HOURS, which encourages ingenuity and creativity from all its contestants.
“U is a perfect match for V48", says V48HOURS founder Ant Timpson, "They've got a guerilla spirit upfront and an 800LB gorilla behind the scenes. Partnering with them opens up all sorts of interesting avenues for us and they seem game to take chances and experiment. Something most channels have coldsweats about. The bottom line is that our mandate is always about the next generation of talent and no channel is focusing on the next gen like U is Game over man."
U live, the daily interactive entertainment music show, will screen live at all the regional launches andwill reveal this year’s compulsory elements to participants. This year, V48HOURS welcomes Rotorua as the eighth region to join Auckland, Hamilton, Gisborne, New Plymouth, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin. A Best Of the Fest television series will screen on U leading up to a Grand Final.
Registration has been made free for all Christchurch residents and it has been encouraging to see the film community there embrace this as record breaking numbers have already signed on.
U live presenters Connor Nestor, Rose Matafeo (an ex V48 champion!), and Tim Lambourne will be interviewing Ant Timpson about the chaos that is the V48 weekend.
Also for the third year running, filmmakers have got the V48Seconds competition to warm up with. This competition is for anyone with access to any old camera, (including mobile phones) and asks people to simply recreate a famous movie scene in all its 48 second glory, featuring V cans or V bottles. Prizes include cash, V product, iPods, editing time and more.
