Shave-tastic! – shave a little, give a lot

Thousands have signed up for the Leukaemia & Blood Foundation’s (LBF) annual fundraising campaign ‘Shave for a Cure’.

The campaign, which starts 4 April, will see thousands of Kiwis parting with their hair to help raise funds for the foundation. During the Shave week (4-10 April) individuals in schools, universities and businesses will gather in their homes, local salons, and churches and throughout their communities to shave their hair in a mass demonstration of solidarity with those living with blood cancers like leukaemia.

Shaving is a bold but simple way of supporting those living with blood cancers such as leukaemia and lymphoma - many of whom lose their hair as a result of life-saving treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Pru Etcheverry, Executive Director, LBF, says, “It is so incredibly heartening to see so many people from all walks of life sign up to shave this year. This is our largest fundraiser for the year so we are just delighted with this level of participation.

“We also recognise the terribly difficult time our Christchurch families and friends have been through. Our premises there were damaged and the patients and families we support there need our assistance more than ever.” It’s not too late for others to sign up to shave.
