BANDS 4 HOPE appeal takes to the streets on Friday 8th April

Streets ahead: BANDS 4 HOPE appeal takes to the streets on Friday 8th April

The BANDS 4 HOPE appeal is taking to the streets this Friday 8th April. Staff volunteers from TelstraClear are heading out en masse to work as collectors, accepting donations for the popular black and red wristbands (BANDS 4 HOPE) at busy locations around the country.

More than 80,000 BANDS 4 HOPE have sold since the appeal launched just weeks ago, raising over $400,000 so far. 100% of funds raised go to the Christchurch Mayoral Earthquake Fund. The BANDS 4 HOPE appeal has been organised and fully funded by TelstraClear and it hopes to raise at least $1 million. The company has donated 200,000 debossed wristbands that New Zealanders and others around the world can wear to show their support for the people of Christchurch.

Radio and television personality, Simon Barnett, is taking to the streets of Christchurch himself on Friday as a volunteer collector for BANDS 4 HOPE:

“If you don’t have your bands yet, now’s the time to get some; for yourself, your friends, your family. Make sure you look out for us and other BANDS 4 HOPE volunteer collectors on Friday afternoon and show your support for Christchurch.”

TelstraClear CEO, Allan Freeth explains the street appeal will not only help raise funds, it provides a ‘hands on’ opportunity for the whole organisation to help Christchurch:

“280 of our colleagues are from Christchurch, so it feels great to help in a really proactive and tangible way. I think that every Kiwi living outside Christchurch can relate to the need to do something active that will help the people there.”

The BANDS 4 HOPE street appeal will take place at participating Westfield Shopping Centres and The Warehouse stores around the country between 3pm and 6pm on Friday. Alternatively people can also buy BANDS 4 HOPE with a donation from $5 online at www.bands4hope.co.nz or at any New Zealand PostShop.
