Invited to Biennale Italy
Jane Kellahan, a Greytown based painter, is one of two New Zealand artists invited to represent their country at the Biennale of Chianciano in Italy.
160 artists worldwide have been invited to participate the 2011 Biennale of Chianciano which is a prestigiously curated museum exhibition, organised by the Chianciano Art Museum in Tuscany scheduled for 17th - 24th of September 2011.
It gathers selected well-known and emerging artists from all over the world, in the second most important Art Biennale in Europe after the Venice Biennale. This exhibition is an opportunity for established as well as emerging artists to gain visibility at an international level and an artistic event of notable quality.
Jane Kellahan said "I am thrilled or honored to represent New Zealand and it shows that Kiwi artists are on the forefront of art and creativity in the international arts arena."
The Art Museum of Chianciano is a situated in the center of Chianciano Terme, the most important spa town in Italy.
The permanent Museum collections range from modern artists such as Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol, Salvador Dali and Munch, to etchings and drawings by masters like Tiepolo, Durer and Rembrandt, some acquired from museums such as The Metropolitan Museum, New York and the Cincinnati Art Museum.
Chianciano is situated in the heart of Tuscany in the province of Siena, an area of stunning natural beauty, the inspiration of both artists and poets. It is located approximately 100 klms from Florence, 150 klms from Rome boasting over 200 hotels.
The exhibition is curated by the same team that have staged exhibitions in museums such as the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Lord Leighton Museum and who have organised the last edition of the Biennale.
In 2009, the Biennale had over 10,000 visitors and is regarded as an exhibition of the highest artistic quality. It is an opportunity for the selected artists to gain a great visibility in the international art world.
