Ports of Auckland to pay respects on ANZAC Day
Ports of Auckland will mark the dawn of this coming ANZAC Day by halting operations and turning out its lights between 6 am and 6.40 am.
This is the eleventh year the Port has marked ANZAC Day in this way. Port lights will be turned off along the entire length of the company's Waitemata Harbour operations, from Fergusson container terminal to Captain Cook Wharf.
While a high-tech remote control device will be used to turn the lights out at Fergusson and Bledisloe wharves, a dozen lights in other parts of the port will need to be switched off manually.
Chief Executive Tony Gibson says commemorating the occasion is important to the company's people. "We're pleased to be able to contribute in a tangible way to Auckland's Anzac Day Dawn Service tradition."
