Lockwood sixth in NZV8 debut at Hamilton 400
Matt Lockwood only competed in three NZV8 rounds this season but finished on a high after taking sixth place overall in his first drive in this class at the Hamilton 400.
Lockwood was consistently in the top ten during practice but an engine problem saw him struggle to qualify in eighteenth place. However he fought his way back in the first race in the wet and finished in tenth place.
The changeable conditions on Sunday resulted in a mixture of cars on wets and slicks. Lockwood ran slicks and improved his finishing position to sixth place.
He then started the final race on slicks in seventh position but ended up at the back of the field after spinning on a very wet part of the track on the first lap. Lockwood then charged through the field gaining nine places before an accident resulted in the race being completed under yellow flag.
“I was expecting the worst when the car spun in the wet but I came to a halt millimetres from the wall,” Lockwood said. “Overall it was a great result for our team - a fast car, a good result and no damage.”
Lockwood is now looking forward to next season and hopes to compete in all rounds, subject to sponsorship, rather than being a part timer as he has been for the last two seasons.
