NZ’s Next Tux Dog Top Ten Chosen

MEDIA RELEASE 2 MAY 2011

NZ’s Next Tux Dog Top Ten Chosen

The search is heating up for New Zealand’s newest animal celebrity – NZ’s Next TUX Dog – now the Top Ten Finalists have now been chosen.

Since March 20, owners of enthusiastic canines have been sending in entries and photos for their chance to follow the pawprints of the previous “fit as a fiddle, sharp as a knife” dogs from the iconic advertisements.

Now, 10 dogs have been chosen as the Top Ten Finalists from well over 500 entries. They are:
• Amazon, a Huntaway from Ohakune
• Brodie, a Border Collie from Palmerston North
• Dixie, a Yorkshire Terrier from Lower Hutt
• Harley, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier from Kumeu, Auckland
• Jay, a Collie cross from Tuatapere, Western Southland
• Jess, an NZ Heading Dog from Taumaranui
• Patrick, a Bearded Collie from Christchurch
• Pesh, a Jack Russell from Beachlands, Auckland
• Sniper, a Boxer from Browns Bay, Auckland
• Sonny, a Golden Retriever Border Collie cross from New Lynn, Auckland

Top animal trainer and TUX search judge, Mark Vette comments, “We had such a terrific response to the search, and after considerable deliberation and some very difficult decisions we’ve found our top ten. Although I always knew New Zealand was full of fantastic dogs we never expected to see so many potential stars. It has certainly been tough to cut the contenders down to ten hopefuls.”

Last week the judges toured the length of New Zealand visiting and auditioning each dog at its home. From May 9-29 the public can watch the audition videos and vote at www.tux.co.nz for the finalist they think should be the NZ’s Next TUX Dog. The ultimate winner will be revealed on June 13.

The chosen dog will star in the new 2011 TUX TVC, and enter the hearts (and lounges) of Kiwis as part of one of New Zealand’s most iconic television campaigns.
