Artist shares her vision through Photo Exhibition in Auckland

Transcendent Light by Eva Polak

Visitors to the Depot Galleries will experience a series of works in new exhibition that challenge the conventional perception of photography. The exhibition, titled “Transcendent Light” by Eva Polak, will be on display from Saturday, 11 June to Thursday, 30 June 2011 as a part of the 2011 Auckland Festival of Photography.

Inspired by distinct and contrasting light conditions that create psychological impact and emotional depth, Polak’s photographs are invested in the perceptual experience of colour, light, and form in a strongly abstract way.

“Detail is not what I want to depict. I’m much more intrigued with the light and colour,” she says. “At the same time, my experiences, feelings and thoughts – my state of consciousness – influence how and what I photograph. I express who I am through what I see.”

Her images, while sometimes appearing to be the result of manipulated special effect, are all achieved in-camera.

About the Artist

New Zealand’s leading impressionist photographer, Polak has shown work at Colorado’s Center for Fine Art Photography. She has also been published twice in Practical Photography, on digital-photography-school.com, and has produced two books: At the beach, a collection of images; and Impressionist photography techniques, outlining ways to use your camera for painterly effect. She also contributes regularly to PhotographyBB an online photography magazine.
