Are you able to attend a Auckland Pasifika Fono this month?
We are the Pacific Leo Bilingual Coalition and we are attempting to coordinate Pacific communities to lobby government to support bilingual education for Pacific Languages. We have an opportunity to influence the Auckland City Council to support this cause but to do so we need the numbers to attend these planned fonos. Are you able to attend one of these fonos?
The Pacific Peoples Advisory Panel, with the support of the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs and Auckland Council, will host four Pacific fono, or forums, on the Auckland Unleashed discussion document.
The forums have been organised to engage with Pacific communities and begin the process of gathering input into the discussion document, and later, the draft Auckland Plan that will guide Auckland's growth and development over the next 30 years.
The chair of the panel, the Reverend Uesifili Unasa said: "The forums begin the conversation between the council and Pacific communities and will contribute to the Mayor's vision to make Auckland the world's most liveable city to work, study, invest and enjoy. This city, with the largest Pacific population in the world, will hear a strong and effective Pacific voice on the future issues we all face."
The forums all occur between 5:30pm and 7:30pm in the following locations: Thursday 12 May - Te Puke O Tara Hall (Otara) Monday 16 May - Fairway Lodge (Takapuna)
