Fabulous French Fun!

Award-winning Operatunity is on the road again with its first ever French-themed concert touring nationally throughout June and July.

“Vive la France!” will be performed in 25 venues nationwide, showcasing two fantastic casts that will bring audiences’ famous French music to enjoy and sing along to, complete with piano accordion.

In the upper North Island and South Island, company director and soprano Susan Boland will join Elisha Fai, Stuart Coats, Paul Chappory, Alex Wiltshire on piano and Craig Denham on piano accordion. In the lower North Island company director and tenor John Cameron will join Orene Tiai, Tamsyn Miller, Lilia Carpinelli and husband Mateo Napoli on piano, with Maurice Jones on piano accordion.

Boland says the concert promises to be full of fun, laughter, and hits songs made famous by artists like Edith Piaf, Maurice Chevalier and so many more.

“Vive la France is filled with gorgeous well-known songs with a splash of Opera,” she says.

“It might be wintery in New Zealand but with great singers and the piano accordion adding such colour, you will feel like you are sitting in a sidewalk café on a balmy Paris evening.”

Famous French music featured in the concert are vibrant songs like Can Can (feel free to dance), Chanson d’amour, C’est si bon, C’est magnifique and beautiful French ballads such as La Vie en Rose, I love Paris and
Autumn Leaves. Boland says songs will mostly be sung in English including many famous ones from the 1950’s like I will wait for you, A man and a woman, Let it be me, Mam’selle de Paree, and Le Mer.

Operatunity will visit 25 venues from Whangarei to Invercargill with its “Vive la France!” tour, commencing in Taupo on June 21. Tickets from $24 include lunch with the artists, with discounts available for group and concession bookings.

The Daytime Concert Series provides quality fun concerts in a friendly, welcoming atmosphere with eight specially-themed concerts at 25 venues throughout New Zealand.
