Language Perfect allows free access for Māori Language Week

Language Perfect, a language vocabulary teaching programme available in a number of schools and tertiary institutions around the country, will allow free access to anyone interested in learning te reo Māori vocabulary across the month of July in celebration of Māori Language Week 2011.

The programme not only teaches students vocabulary of other languages, including correct pronunciation guides, but also achieves this by running online competitions between all the subscribing schools and organisations from across the country and even around the world.

The competition is called the ‘World Languages League’ and to acknowledge Māori Language Week celebrations starting 4 July 2011, the Māori language has been designated as the focus of the competition for the month of July. In addition all the words and phrases contained in the Māori Language Week phrase booklet for 2011 have also been loaded into the programme.

“There are already many students in schools and other subscribing institutions across Aotearoa learning the vocabulary of different languages via this resource – over 110,000 students from 400 schools here and in Australia. The opportunity to both profile te reo Māori and enable more people access to the type of self directed learning that this programme offers was too good to pass up, and we are glad to support this initiative”, says Chief Executive, Glenis Philip Barbara.
