Film Cafe 2011 Filmmaker Talks


The countdown is on to the opening of the Film Cafe at the New Zealand International Film Festival, presented by Show Me Shorts, hosted by NZIFF 2011 and The Edge.

Come in from the cold and head down the Civic staircase to the wonderful Wintergarden to imbibe at the bar or coffee cart, and catch each day's free events: see a great line up of short films, art installations, interactive games, or watch your favourite NZ films at the Film Archive viewing stations.

Script to Screen is proud to present a fantastic line up of evening Filmmaker Talks with the filmmakers of some of the best films at the Festival.

Saturday 16 - Sunday 31 July, The Wintergarden, downstairs at The Civic, Queen Street, Auckland.

Bar and café open 12.00 pm week days and 2.00 pm weekends.

Join Daytime Tiger writer/director/producer Costa Botes as he talks with documentary filmmaker Pietra Brettkelly about mania and art, and why he "must have caught a touch of mania himself" to accept the challenge of capturing Michael Morrisey's wild genius on film.

Mon 25 July 6:30 pm Script to Screen Filmmaker Talk with Annie Goldson about Brother Number One, hosted by WIFT.

Barbara Sumner Burstyn (producer of This Way of Life) will facilitate a discussion with Annie on her most recent work, Brother Number One.

Tue 26 July 6:30 pm A Script to Screen Writer's Room at the Wintergarden with Sally Rowe about A Matter of Taste.

For 10 years filmmaker Sally Rowe followed New York chef Paul Leibrandt in the cutthroat world of New York haute cuisine, from superstar breakthrough to unemployment and derision and back again. Rowe talks to Kiwi documentary maker Leanne Pooley about having patience: waiting for the story to emerge and knowing when it was complete.

Thurs 28 July 6:30 pm Script to Screen Filmmaker Talk with Morgan Spurlock about POM Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold hosted by the NZ Writers Guild.

Fri 29 July 6:30 pm Script to Screen Filmmaker Talk with Park Kiyong about Moving.

Alex Lee of the Documentary NZ Trust talks to director Park Kiyong about being a Korean documentary filmmaker in New Zealand, how he developed the story and the similarities and differences between the Korean and New Zealand industries.
