Moving Forward On The Muslim Burqa:– Educational Event Tonight And This Weekend
Following constructive public discussion recently, it has been widely agreed that, together with the core human values of compassion, sincere concern and human dignity, there remains as well a need for society to be equipped with some level of education about important or high profile religious tenets such as the Burqa.
It is also widely agreed that some responsibility also lies with the Muslim community to be more proactive in improving awareness about some of the important or high profile tenets of its faith.
At a professional learning level, the Rasheed Memorial Trust continues to provide and offer cultural training via highly qualified teachers or academics as it has done for hundreds of members of public and private sector organisations over the last three years.
At a more informal level, it is clear that the discussion on the Muslim veil or Burqa is one that will become topical from time to time as a result of international or local events and that a little, even informally gained knowledge equally important for ongoing constructive discussion on such matters.
The Rasheed Memorial Trust is therefore pleased to note that the Young Muslim Women’s Association has organised an event at the University entitled “Hijab in the West” tonight 8th July at the Auckland University Library Basement B10, which will dedicate a significant portion to the discussion on the Muslim veil following a discussion on the headscarf, the rationale and religious and human objectives of both in the Muslim faith.
Tonight and throughout the coming weekend, religious qualified teachers from Australia are being hosted in New Zealand to improve awareness of the Shariah both amongst faith adherents and those otherwise seeking to learn. There is organised a variety of men’s, women’s and family events, while tonight’s event is focused on the topic issue of the Muslim headscarf and also the Muslim veil.
“It is an important of working together to move forward, that we as a community work to lift the veil of ignorance that lies over the religious and practical consequences around the Muslim veil” says one of this weekend’s event organisers, Mr Aarif Rasheed, Barrister and Secretary of the Rasheed Memorial Trust, which supports such educational events fostering intercultural dialogue and understanding.
