School Holiday Programme

Into the Woods
Second week of the holidays, 25 - 29 July, 10am - 2pm

These holidays children will get busy making exciting artworks that relate to our forests to celebrate International Year of the Forests. They will get inspiration from learning about New Zealand's unique forest landscapes and explore tropical jungles to foster their creative ideas.

Enchanted Forest - Monday 25 July

Children will make a mystical forest scene depicting their favourite native trees, which will be formed and textured using air-dried clay and attached to their painting to give a 3D effect.

Capturing Dragons - Tuesday 26 July

Using a wide range of recycled materials and mixed media students will make a 3D head of a captured dragon or mythical creature. They will also complete a watercolour of their captured beast.

Jungle Fever - Wednesday 27 July

We will look at endangered species that live in remote jungles and create our favourite animal in paper clay, which will be decorated with ceramic stains and fired. An ink drawing will also be completed showing your animal in its natural habitat.

Exotic Flight - Thursday 28 July

Children can choose their favourite bird from the Amazon jungle to bring to life using vibrant paper pulps, sequins, coloured feathers and leaves. They will decorate the background using acrylics and pearlene shimmers.

Nocturnal Lantern - Friday 29 July

Children will think about being in a forest at dusk and the creatures that may be out and about. We will make a lantern covered in drawings of vines, insects, night hunters and tropical moonflowers. The finished lanterns will have little LED lights which will glow into the night.
