ARTSPACE 2011 Curatorial Internship Awarded

Artspace is pleased to announce Arron Santry as the recipient of our 2011 Curatorial Internship. Arron Santry was awarded this coveted learning position out of an impressive range of talented applicants.

Arron comes to us with a solid academic background. He graduated from the University of Auckland in 2011 with a double major, a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and English Literature. Having previously worked in the context of commercial galleries, he is now looking to engage with more experimental and conceptual projects.

Arron Santry who starts his Internship this week says, "I am honoured to have been offered this opportunity to spend a year immersing myself in such an engaging space. Artspace encourages the development of new ideas and dialogues within the local and international arts communities, and I'm excited to become a part of that process.”

Arron is the seventh Curatorial Intern at Artspace. The internship, established in 2004, offers budding curators a unique opportunity to learn in a mentored relationship with the Director at one of New Zealand’s leading contemporary art galleries. The programme is a vital instrument in growing experience and professionalism of New Zealand’s contemporary art practitioners

Previous interns are on their way to this goal through taking on curatorial positions at contemporary art spaces locally and internationally and working as writers, critics and on independent curatorial projects. Our 2008 Intern Kate Brettkelly-Chalmers is developing her writing through travelling to the Venice Biennale this month.

The Artspace Curatorial Intern Programme is made possible through the support of Creative New Zealand and private patronage.
