The Briefcase Project: 8-14 August 2011 at Thistle Hall
Thistle Hall is a vibrant community centre in the heart of New Zealand's cultural capital. We provide a community hall, meeting room and Wellington's only community gallery showcasing a range of artists and crafts people, from the established to the emerging. Thistle Hall is located on the corner of Cuba and Arthur streets. The shows on at Thistle Hall Community Gallery are run by the artists who hire it.
OPENING: 5.00 Monday 8 August.
OPEN:
9.00am - 6.00pm Tuesday - Sunday.
The Briefcase Project is a group show of 18 artists. Each artist is given the spatial limitation of one briefcase each, within which they've been instructed to explore the limits of their creative potential. The briefcase takes the idea of a blank canvas and elevates it to three dimensions.
Within these enclosures are installations of sculpture, sound design, puppetry, textiles, jewellery, tattoo art, illustration and more. Viewers are invited to get hands-on with these interactive works, to explore and to play.
