Press release
Californian Muslim filmmaker, Mustafa Davis, visits New Zealand.
Here for the first time on his Asia Pacific tour Mustafa Davis will be running a full day workshop on the art of filmmaking and photography.
Mustafa’s workshop will focus on providing easy and accessible ways for people to tell their own stories through art, such as through the use of smartphones.
The workshop will take place on Saturday 8th October from 10am to 4pm at Auckland City Libraries, 46 Lorne Street, Auckland.
Graduating from the New York Film Academy Mustafa’s work has been showcased at film festivals and on MTV, PBS and iTV.
His documentary, ‘DeenTight’, an exploration into American Muslim Hip Hop culture was recently screened in Auckland to a receptive audience.
Mustafa is being hosted by the Muslim Youth Advisory Council (MYAC) an organisation that aims to give a voice to young Kiwi Muslims.
Maryam Khan, Chairperson of MYAC says, “This was too good an opportunity to pass us by, in terms of connecting with a positive role model and learning different ways of being creative.”
Mustafa’s documentary ‘The Warm Heart of Africa’, about the impact of HIV/AIDs on children in Malawi, will also be screened on the Monday 10th October at 6pm at Rialto Cinemas. The screening will be followed by an audience discussion with Mustafa.
