23 September 2011

Wear Your Rugby Shirt – Get Half Price Entry at Carter this Sunday!

3…2…1…Blast off for a day of family fun at Carter Observatory this Sunday from 10am until 5:30pm. Not only will there be heaps of awesome activities – but if you wear your favourite rugby shirt, you’ll get in for half price. So, come along, support your team, and see the stars.

Sunday 25th September at Carter will be fun-filled. We’ll be running navigation-themed planetarium shows and loads of hands on activities throughout the day. Make a planisphere or an astrolabe to help you find your way around, join in with our create-a-constellation competition, or see if you can navigate your way around our multimedia exhibition following a special trail. Locals and visitors alike are welcome.

Come dressed in a rugby shirt from your favourite team, and you’ll get half price entry too (10am – 5:30pm). A sausage sizzle and face-painting also available. Doors open at 10am. Planetarium shows start at 10:15 with a special viewing of Tycho to the Moon, for our younger visitors.

This week is also a special opportunity for people in Wellington to view the night skies through Carter Observatory’s Thomas Cooke telescope. The telescope will be open late every night this week until 9.30pm to make the most of clear dark night skies. The 9 inch / 23 cm Thomas Cooke telescope has most recently allowed visitors to view Saturn.

The Pelorus Trust Planetarium is also open (last show at 8pm) and features a live navigation themed digital presentation on a dome theatre.
