Dunedin exhibition set for Ashburton
Smoke and Mirrors features the work of three prominent Dunedin artists, Anya Sinclair, Michael Greaves and Peter Cleverley. The exhibition opening and artist talk is on Saturday 1st October at 1:30pm.
This group exhibition makes for an interesting combination of works, highlighting each artists very different and individual style. Anya Sinclair’s work is mystical and enchanting with soft and dreamy textures layered upon abstract landscape scenes, giving the works quite an unnerving yet beautiful quality.
Michael Greaves’ work takes us on a journey from one side of the globe to the other, literally. His work includes graphite, watercolour, gauache, glitter, oil, ink jet photo and kohl. This mixed media approach highlights the journey through the different cultures and settings in which Greaves based his collection.
Peter Cleverley’s work includes his use of large dog imagery, religious symbolism; pictures of ethnic-tribal figures and skull and cross bones. Cleverley’s use of familiar symbols juxtaposed against the natural environment reflects a relationship between the land and its people and is portrayed in a very jarring nature - alluding to a broader political statement about human condition.
This exhibition opens on Saturday 1st October and is available for viewing until Sunday 6th November 2011.
