Marty Schmidt summits Aoraki/Mt Cook with Mike Fyfe
Alpinist and Macpac gear tester Marty Schmidt summits Aoraki/Mt Cook with Mike Fyfe to repeat history
Macpac’s alpine gear tester, Marty Schmidt, summits Aoraki/ Mt Cook with Mike Fyfe to repeat history. Mike is the great-great grandson of Tom Fyfe, who was among the trio who climbed the first ascent of Mt Cook (Aoraki). Marty Schmidt, New Zealand’s strongest and arguably most successful high altitude climber guided Mike up New Zealand’s highest mountain to summit the High Peak at 11am Saturday 19th November. They chose a shortened version of the original climb by electing to fly to Plateau Hut. They then climbed the same Linda Glacier route as that climbed by George Graham, Jack Clarke, & Tom Fyfe back in 1894.
