LATEST NEWS: No Support From CNZ
LATEST NEWS: No Support From CNZ
Welcome to the latest Cultural Icons update. We would like to thank you for your support, involvement and/or interest in the project; 2011 has seen it grow from strength to strength with 50 interviews and programmes now recorded and many more planned. The significance of the project has been recognised nationally with dozens of links forming between the Cultural Icons website and arts organisations, libraries, galleries, museums, arts/culture websites and other international online resources such as Wikipedia.
However we are dismayed to receive the latest news from Creative New Zealand announcing The Depot's Arts Grant application for support for the project (20 new visual arts interviews) has been unsuccessful.
The project was initially funded by Auckland Regional Services Trust, in 2009, which allowed for development of the format, the purpose-build of the multi-media website (with part sponsorship by Seven - now Strategy) and the production of 40 interviews (audio and video) of predominantly Auckland based Cultural Icons.
The Depot recently applied for an Arts Grant through CNZ, to allow us to continue developing the project to include significant arts & culture contributors from throughout New Zealand.
With their perplexing decision not to fund the project, we are now seeking other avenues of support.
The Cultural Icons series comprises in-depth interviews with some of the people who have shaped New Zealand’s arts landscape; while there is familiarity with the achievements and works of these people there is often little awareness of the creators, commentators, givers. The Cultural Icons project sheds a light on the experiences, histories and lives of these people and provides insight into the personalities and philosophies behind the work.
It is New Zealand's most innovative, accessible and inspiring arts resource and we are determined it should continue to grow. We welcome your feedback, support and involvement in any form.
