FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Paul Henry to Sift Truth From Lies in New TV3 Show

TV3 has confirmed the network’s first television project with Paul Henry, screening in the premium 7pm Sunday timeslot, will be new comedy panel show Would I Lie to You?

Henry will host the programme which sees celebrity teams compete to tell the most believable lies, and unbelievable truths. In the process they reveal incredible facts and embarrassing, but hilarious, personal stories.

MediaWorks Director of Programming Kelly Martin says TV3 looked at numerous options for the 7pm slot, and Would I Lie to You? was head and shoulders above the rest.

“We have always said that we wanted to launch Paul on TV3 with a show ideally suited to his mischievous wit and fearless opinions,” says Martin.

“This format is perfect. It allows us to make the most of Paul’s unique broadcasting talents, build on our track record with comedy, and involve a wide range of celebrity guests.”

Would I Lie to You? will be filmed in blocks of episodes, beginning later in December. Once Henry moves to Australia in the New Year, he will return to Auckland regularly to record new episodes.

“It has always been important that our 7pm Paul Henry show had a strongly New Zealand flavour,” Martin says.

“We felt this was not only the perfect show for Paul, but ticked all the boxes when it came to securing top notch guest talent.

“This is a brilliant, brilliant television format, and the ideal show for Sunday evenings,” Henry says.

“Half an hour of well-known Kiwis sharing outrageous lies and astonishing truths, coached and corralled by the talented Jesse and Jon, is my idea of great television.”

WOULD I LIE TO YOU?

Hosted by mischievous and brilliant broadcaster Paul Henry, Would I Lie To You? is a panel comedy show in which two teams compete to separate believable truths from unbelievable lies. Team captains Jesse Mulligan and Jon Bridges drive their celebrity guests (two per team) to reveal incredible facts and embarrassing personal tales for the consideration of the opposing teams. In the hilarious process we learn more than we possibly need to know about the celebrities, Jesse and Jon, and Paul himself.

Each week Jon and Jess are joined by guest personalities, including sports icons, actors, raconteurs, musicians and politicians. The initial line-up includes Bernice Mene, actors Jodi Rimmer, Colin Mathura-Jeffree, Tom Scott, Jon Toogood, Antonia Prebble and Robyn Malcolm.

Would I Lie To You? will screen on TV3 as part of the 2012 new season, at 7pm on Sunday.
