Guild congratulates Taranaki pharmacist for QSM honour

The Guild would like to congratulate Howard Anderson of Patea Pharmacy for being awarded a Queen’s Service Medal in the New Year’s Honours List.

Mr Anderson, who turned 73 last year, served the Patea community as a community pharmacist for over 40 years before retiring in 2001.

Guild President, Karen Crisp, says Howard Anderson has shown great commitment to his Taranaki community and, together with his other contributions, is thoroughly deserving of a QSM.

“Howard is clearly a very dedicated professional who has made a real difference to the welfare of his community. He acquired a loyal following among the community through his hard work and commitment to his patients and he is an exemplary role model for young pharmacists.”

Mr Anderson has also been a lay minister at the St George's Anglican Church in Patea since 1997. His other significant contributions included establishing the monthly Patea Mail community newspaper, serving as the vice-president of the Patea Historical Society and Museum, the chair of the Patea Film Society and the president of the Patea Business Association.

He has also had a long involvement with the Scouts organisation as a scout leader for over 20 years for which he received the Scouts Award of Merit and Bar.

The Taranaki Daily News also reported that Mr Anderson has recently completed a two-CD oral history recording for the Oral History Trust about his 50 years in the community.
