Audience Enthralled at World of Wearableart Opening Show in Hong Kong - Keen for More

Members of the sell-out audience at the 2012 Hong Kong Arts Festival opening of the World of WearableArt (WOW) on the weekend said the show was astonishing, and they are keen for more.

The 2012 Hong Kong Arts Festival show marks the first time that WOW has performed at an international festival, and WOW Founder Dame Suzie Moncrieff says she is thrilled at how the opening performances went.

“We opened on Sunday with a private show for the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and then presented to a sold out public matinee audience,” Dame Suzie says. “Both shows were well received. We had great feedback from the audience with people saying they had never seen anything like it

“Many we spoke with said they would definitely come again next time, which bodes well for our goal of taking WOW performances to other international festivals,” she says. “I am extremely proud of the WOW artistic team, who had to do much of the show’s development in New Zealand, away from the venue and the Hong Kong-based performers.

“The New Zealand performers and Hong Kong performers (made up of 35 local children and 38 local adult dancers) had rehearsed separately and came together for a full rehearsal less than two weeks ago.

“The WOW team arrived here and hit the ground running, pulling together the show in its entirety in a very short timeframe,” she says. “They have done a wonderful job and New Zealand should be very proud of how the country has been represented on the international stage.

“The Hong Kong Arts Festival team has also been brilliant to work with, and we have enjoyed the collaboration between the two countries to present WOW to a new audience,” she says.

The World of WearableArt™ is a concept created in 1987 by Dame Suzie Moncrieff, to take art off the wall and adorn the human form, then showcase each creation in a dramatic setting. A new way to experience art and fashion was born and Dame Suzie called it WearableArt™. The annual World of WearableArt Awards Show in Wellington, is proudly a New Zealand event, and now attracts over a third of its entrants internationally, giving the event a global flavour.
