Scratch & Wed

Media Release 15 February 2012

Scratch & Wed

A Hamilton couple are getting married after 28 years together following their windfall of $50,000 after winning the top prize on Instant Kiwi’s new Cash in a Beat ticket.

The happy couple drove down to the Wellington office to claim their winnings today, which they say is going to change their whole life.

“I just went to the supermarket to get some milk and butter, had $3 left over so bought the ticket on impulse,” says the bride to be! “I scratched it at home and even when I realised I’d won I still couldn’t really believe it.”

After the win sunk in, she called her partner and proposed to him!

“I said, ‘so do you want to get married now’, and he said, ‘make sure you’ve really won before I make my decision’,” she jokes.

The couple say they hadn’t got married to date because they have such a large family and it would cost too much, but now they have $50,000 in the bank, the bells will soon be ringing.

“We can pay off the car, we can give the kids some money, and we can have all our family come and join us as we finally tie the knot – it’s a dream come true,” says the soon-to-be-groom!

The ticket was sold at Heaphy Terrace New World in Hamilton. This is the first top prize to be claimed on the Cash in a Beat ticket, with six still up for grabs.

The Cash in a Beat Instant Kiwi ticket is also part of joint promotion with radio station The Edge for the next seven weeks.

The Cash in The Beat promotion works by testing caller’s music knowledge by playing three song snippets, and the player naming all three song titles as fast as they can to win whatever the cash countdown stops on – and with $80,000 cash up for grabs, it’s proving to be very popular.
