Stand Up Paddle Boarding to Great Barrier Island

On Saturday, Troy Huston and friend Bevan Gooch were the first ever to SUP (stand up paddle board) to Great Barrier Island.
Distance:
45km
Route: Tawharaui (Takatu Point) to
Great Barrier Island
Time taken: 6 hours
20 mins
Weather conditions: A light 2-5
knot SW (meaning an unassisted/ windless
paddle).

Troy was selected to represent NZ in the upcoming World SUP Championships in Peru, as Surfing NZ is not Sparc funded it is a completely self-funded trip. "With no recent success trying to attract sponsors to fund the trip, more drastic measures were required to make it happen and get to The Worlds to represent NZ."
