JK adds a 4th Golden Shears title
JK adds a 4th Golden Shears title
The 52nd Golden Shears has finished on a big note for Napier’s John Kirkpatrick, who produced a shear of his life to nab his 4th open championship crown in 10 years.
Kirkpatrick, 41, brought a crowd of more than 2500 to its feet in the finishing stages of the 2012 Golden Shears World Championship at Masterton’s War Memorial Stadium tonight.
It is the fourth title he has under his belt, joining an elite group of past multiple-winners.
Prime Minister John Key and Governor General Sir Jerry Mateparae had front row view of frenetic action as Kirkpatrick displayed a mastery of shearing, not seen since David Fagan’s complete domination throughout the 1990s.
The Golden Shears open title is seen as the Wimbledon of world shearing competitions.
2010
world champion, Waipawa’s Cam Ferguson fell into second,
while the world’s best of the best, 16-time Golden Shears
champion and five-time world champ David Fagan took fourth
behind Northlander Rowland Smith.
Whanganui’s Joanne
Kumeroa won her sixth Golden Shears open title since her
success in 1995.
