Bring the Keg Back to the Brewery Race Community Fundraiser

March 7th 2012

“Bring the Keg Back To the Brewery Race” To Raise Money for Local Community

Carl Bevan doesn’t shy away from a good challenge, especially when it involves running for a good cause.

The 32 year-old Wairarapa based builder will lead one of the teams competing in the inaugural “Bring the Keg Back to the Brewery” race at Mangatainoka on Sunday, March 25th. With the help of four team-mates, the recreational runner will carry an empty keg for 8kms over farmland and varying terrain – including a clamber up to the Tuiwood sign he built in 2006 - before returning the keg to Tui Brewery.

“I know the terrain around this area well having worked here for several years and I have to say I think it’s going to be a good old fashioned challenge,” says Carl. “The course covers some great farmland, there’s a river crossing and of course a bit of a scramble up the hill to the Tuiwood sign – so you could say there’s something for everyone.”

Carl is also looking forward to completing the race knowing that all funds raised from the event will go to Pahiatua On Track, a local group fundraising for the community.

“Bring the Keg Back to the Brewery” is one of four events being held in and around Tui Brewery over the next two months and comes just weeks after the sold-out Super Rugby pre-season game between the Hurricanes and the Crusaders which attracted rugby fans as far afield as Hong Kong and Australia.

Upcoming events include this Saturday’s Mangatainoka Golf Open (March 10); the Bush Cycle Tour (March 11); the Toki Truck Stop Show & Shine (Saturday 28th April) and the Tui Tunes Under the Tower live music afternoons held on the final Sunday of each month.

Tui HQ manager Jenny Holmes says the family friendly and community based events provide something for everyone.

“Whether people are into golf, like the challenge of cycling or running, or want to check out every type of truck imaginable – the upcoming events at Tui Brewery cater for all tastes,” she says. “And of course all these events are all for a good cause with money raised going straight back into the community or being raised for a chosen charity.”
