Also on the festival bill are the Trons, the garage rock band from Hamilton with no human members (all instruments are played by robots built from junk and salvaged electronics), rock band Luger Boa, who have been compared by The Press as being dipped in mustard and interrogated by the devil, and Indie rock favourite Clap Clap Riot.

The range of activities in the festival includes interactive workshops from some of New Zealand’s top music and arts specialists, including ukulele, guitar and drumming for every age and everyone; a ‘Family Day’ held on Sunday 1st April with the storytelling of Tanya Batt and musician Craig Denham, a Marimba group performance by Fraser Bruce and Mhara Marimba, poi making at an art table running for the day, a performance by the Tahini Jam ukulele band, and a unique performance from award-winning children’s songwriter and entertainer Mr Robberelli.

Kicking off the festival with a bang is Wellington’s psychedelic blues band The Nudge. The Nudge has delivered blistering performances at many of New Zealand’s biggest festivals and opened for Little Bushman, The Black Seeds and Fly My Pretties. What a way to start! With support from Benadam – the experimental project of renown Israeli guitarist Arli Liberman (expect original compositions which combine the colours of the Middle East

Femme Fatale
Fleur Jack & The Jandals
Friday 30 March, 7pm – Titirangi Theatre

In 2010 she became the 51st artist in the world to successfully raise to target on the website funding platform ‘Sellaband’, which she went on to fund the recording of her debut solo album. Her alt/country and rock/pop styles of Ghosts of Cimarron has recently been released in 2011. She has released previous albums with Pavlova & The Jandals and with her West Auckland rock band The Twitch (2005 NZ winners of Battle of the Bands).

Victoria Girling-Butcher
Saturday 31 March, 7pm – Titirangi Theatre
Having performed previously at TFM with the well-known sound of dreamy pop band Lucid 3, songwriter Victoria Girling-Butcher has earned a reputation as one of NZ’s key popular music composers. Her new album Summit Drive has swiftly gained the big thumbs up from some of our music industry’s toughest critics. She has also played in bands with Dave Dobbyn, magical multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Andrew Keoghan, and more. This is a rare chance to catch Victoria and her band, (with a secret special guest line up) in an Auckland setting such as this.

A night of top class New Zealand Indie Rock featuring Luger Boa, Clap Clap Riot, Invader Cain and Heroes for Sale. Luger Boa is fast accelerating to New Zealand rock royalty after constant nationwide touring, support slots for Meat Loaf and showcasing their killer riffs. This is true rock ‘n roll swagger at its furious best! Clap Clap Riot have deservedly gained a cult reputation as an indie rock favourite with a sound that embodies a clash between the seething, gritty guitar riffs of rock ‘n’ roll, laced with infectious toe tapping pop melodies. Support is from Invader Cain, new young talent Heroes for Sale and our selected Young Guns winner.

Paddy Free, Iva Lamkum, BlackSandDiva, Dale Soul
Saturday 31 March, 7.30pm – Titirangi War Memorial Hall
A big night of funking grooves featuring Paddy Free, Iva Lamkum, BlackSandDiva, and Dale Soul.
Wellington based hip hop/soul sensation Iva Lamkum first rose to fame as the voice behind the Sola Rosa hit Turn Around, and her unique groove and sassy style is fast gaining her the title of one of New Zealand’s most unique and captivating female artists. Warming things up are the funk/soul styles and unique Sth Pacific jazz grooves of BlackSandDiva, who launch the new album R-aw-ahi, with a TFM line up of special guests, and the fresh talents of Avondale College band Dale Soul, who blew away festival goers in 2011. There is support from our local Young Guns winner, dancing and more! But thats just for starters... Paddy Free is one half of world renown electronica group Pitch Black. The Piha based producer and musician is legendary for his energetic live shows, captivating visuals, multimedia art and catchy trance beats that will keep your feet on the floor till the wee smalls.

West of the Border
The Nukes and Paul Symons Band
Friday 30 March, 7.30pm – Titirangi RSA
Titirangi’s favourite ukulele trio The Nukes return with their catchy songs, full of good humour and charm, and a certain something that makes audiences tap their toes and grin from ear to ear.
Having now made quite a name for themselves nationwide in festivals such as SPLORE, WOMAD, Taranaki Arts Festival and Melbourne Ukulele Festival, a home crowd concert is hard to beat for David Parker, Ben Collier, and Snapper (David Thiele). Not to miss before is the fabulous Paul Symons Band. Growing up a Taranaki farm boy, and soaking up the musical styles of the 70’s fused with adventure on the road, Paul’s eventual settling in West Auckland led to the acclaimed album Spaceman and the recently released Shooting Stars. With a fabulous band that includes Lott Larrsen (double bass) Des Mallon (drums/percussion) Janek ‘Buck’ Croydon (Steel guitar), and special guest vocalist/guitarist Sarita Murdoch.

Closing concert
The Trons
Sunday 1 April, 7pm – Titirangi Theatre
The end to a fabulous week has got to be special – and so we have it with The Trons, New Zealand’s (and the world’s!) first original ‘robot band’! The band has no human members, all instruments played by robots built from junk and salvaged materials. Their original songs influenced by the likes of the Velvet Underground and fellow garage kiwis, The Clean. The Trons have performed over 100 shows, two trips to Europe to music festivals in Prague, art galleries in Vienna, and seedy alley hangouts in Berlin. UK Guardian proclaimed them “the most exciting electronic band since Kraftwerk”. The show includes live video feeds from miniature cameras on the machines, the images projected giant sized over the top of the band, highlighting the members in all their junky mechanical glory. Curious audience members will be welcome to check out the band close up.
