Thousands will be extra neighbourly this weekend

Thousands of neighbours will be chatting over the fence, sharing cups of tea, enjoying street parties, organising backyard cricket, and lending a hand to others in their street this Neighbours Day.

A national celebration of neighbourliness in its second year, the campaign has gained significant momentum across the country and is set to surpass participation in Neighbours Day 2011.

Rebecca Harrington, campaign manager, says “It’s not too late to get involved in Neighbours Day. We encourage everyone to go one step further and connect with neighbours they haven’t met yet”.

“We’re grateful to our sponsors – particularly Signify and Bell Tea. Its organisations such as these who have helped make Neighbours Day 2012 possible. Thanks to Bell Tea and Canon New Zealand, we have prizes for the best photographs and stories of neighbourly celebrations happening this weekend. People can find out more at www.neighboursday.org.nz.”

Everyone supporting Neighbours Day is encouraged to join in and put their street on the map at www.neighboursday.org.nz/join-in
