When she is Distinguished Professor Dame Anne Salmond from the Department of Maori Studies at the University of Auckland. From early studies of Maori protocol in her book "Hui" through the biographical portraits of the elders Amiria and Eruera Stirling, Dame Anne has more recently branched out into chronicles of the colonisation of the Pacific in anthropological studies that read like histories and entertain like novels.
