Murphy On The Sidelines for Christchurch
Greg Murphy’s recovery from surgery last week has forced him to step down from his drive in this weekend’s second round of the V8 SuperTourer Championship at the Powerbuilt Tools Raceway.
His place in the M3 racing Mike Pero-backed Holden V8 SuperTourer will be taken by fellow Kiwi and Australian Supercar ace Fabian Coulthard. Murphy will make the trip, but will be on hand primarily for his legion of fans.
“Everyone hoped and prayed that Greg may have been able to race this weekend, but in the end recovery from the operation is just going to take longer than the time he had available before Christchurch,” said V8 SuperTourers CEO Paul Radisich.
“He’s our biggest name and is naturally gutted not to be racing on the South Island at his sponsors home track. However in Fabian Coulthard M3 Racing have another top line driver who will be fast immediately and be a major factor over the weekend in what we already know is a super competitive package.
Murphy had an operation on a ruptured disc – a problem he has had since 2010 – which was re-injured in his recent massive shunt during qualifying at the 2012 season-opening Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.
