Community And Business Collaborate to Present New Waikato Show
More
than 70 Waikato community and business organisations and
thousands of participants are gearing up to present the
city's new Waikato Show event to be staged over three days
this month.
In a colourful celebration of the community
the Waikato Show will present a unique programme of family
focused fun, topical and educational community initiatives,
business expertise
and a host of vibrant shows and
performances within the Show.
From Friday April 27th to Sunday 29th Claudelands Events Centre will come alive with music stages, ethnic food and cafes, animals large, small and unusual, interactive activities including cultural, art, environmental and civil defence demonstrations and talks, health, wellness and business expos, as well as a gold coin donation antique road show.
Waikato Show president Noel Gleeson said the new event represented a desire from within businesses and community organisations to come together in an annual celebration of the region's dynamic and diverse character.
A full programme of barber shop choirs, bands
and dance groups including the popular Funky Monkeys,
competitions plenty of outdoor action for Mums and Dads as
well
as kids will feature a corporate civil defence 'Get
Ready Get Thru' challenge, remote control helicopter skill
tests, building competitions, hourly grocery raffles, the
Mounted Equestrian Games, rides and
Alf's Army's Pacifist
war games for the kids
Gleeson said the time had come to showcase the multitude of strengths, talents and skills within the wider community and a call to action had been overwhelmingly positive.
“There is a tremendous passion
in our community for sharing and joining together to
celebrate, learn from each other and have fun at the same
time. Through the goodwill
of hundreds of volunteers
including Waikato Lions clubs, we are able to keep the entry
price at $5, with kids under 5 free. I wouldn't be a bit
surprised if some families come back for a second
day
because there is so much to do and see.”
