Ugandan Children’s Choir to Offer Free Concerts

Ugandan Children’s Choir to Offer Free Concerts

The globally acclaimed Watoto Children’s Choir from Uganda will be in the North Island from the 18 May – 10 June offering free concerts. Hosted by International Aid and Development agency, TEAR Fund – the choir’s energetic fusion of contemporary gospel and traditional African rhythm has won international acclaim from royalty, presidents and ministers.

Travelling internationally since 1994 as ambassadors for the millions of children in Africa orphaned as a result of HIV/AIDS, war and poverty, the choir will travel around the North Island for three weeks.

Watoto Ministries is based out of Kampala, Uganda and currently takes care of over 2500 orphaned and vulnerable children across three villages within the country. Entitled, ‘Beautiful Africa: A New Generation’, this tour features vibrant African music, dance routines and life-transforming stories that tell the story of Watoto children.

TEAR Fund events organiser, Megan Claxton is thrilled to bring Watoto to New Zealand, “The Watoto children’s choir is much loved by New Zealand audiences. They carry with them the stories of Africa’s rescued orphans and their incredible message of transformation. We encourage all New Zealanders to come to this free concert and hear their story.”

The Watoto production originally debuted in the US in September 2011 and has travelled through Canada, UK and Australia with its final stop being a North Island tour in New Zealand.

Entry is free but donations are welcome.
