Film Raro is a filmmakers dream come true

Press Release May 12 2012

Film Raro is a filmmakers dream come true -

To make a finished film in a south pacific tropical paradise all expenses covered. Film Raro - It's a filmmakers dream come. The opportunity to make a finished short film in the tropical south pacific paradise of Rarotonga in the Cook islands, with the help of three film buddies all production done and all expenses paid for.

Film Raro is a film challenge like no other in the world. Its core objectives are to aid the social and economic development of the people of the Cook Islands helping them to learn more about telling their own digital stories to be able to preserve heritage, culture, identity and have a voice in today's overwhelming audiovisual digital world.

Film Raro will link filmmakers from all over the globe with the indigenous peoples of the Cook Islands to make up to eight short films.

Stan Wolfgramm Film Raro Executive Producer says, “The films can be about anything they want as long as they’re prepared to shoot in the Cook Islands and help the locals to learn more about making great films. Just write a short film script or come up with an idea for a documentary and enter it into the challenge. If selected grab three friends who can shoot, do sound and edit, bring some gear and we’ll look after the rest. Flights, accommodation, transport, meals, props, cast what ever its takes to make a finished film.”

The whole island will support Film Raro but there is a catch - it is a challenge and all films must be shot and finished in seven days to be showcased to eager locals at a gala screening and then on to film festivals around the world.

To further boost the profile of Film Raro and all those involved, the production of a behind the scenes ‘Film Raro – A Filmmakers Paradise Challenge’ documentary series will also be produced for international broadcast.

"Ask any filmmaker and they will tell you the hardest thing about making a film is paying for it, getting the help to do it, actually finishing it, and then getting an audience other than their mother to watch it. Tell them about Film Raro and they all say ‘It's a dream come true!" Stan Wolfgramm executive producer Film Raro.

The inaugural Film Raro event is scheduled for March 2013. Film Raro is taking entries now on www.filmraro.com
