Week of fun events in Rotorua to celebrate National Youth Week
A number of events are happening in Rotorua from 19 to 27 May to celebrate National Youth Week 2012.
Rotorua District Council (RDC), along with local youth-based organisations and church groups, are providing young people with lots of fun activities throughout the week. Events include NZ Music Month clinics, a dance party, free performances by Excel performing arts students, live entertainment, sports, talent quest, careers expo, House of Horrors and more.
RDC youth projects officer Jill Campbell says it is a week to celebrate young people and their contributions to the community.
“This year’s theme is ‘Love the Skin You’re In’ and aims to build confidence among youth. It’s a great opportunity for youth to get involved in things and celebrate being young.”
Treasure Rotorua is also promoting safety during Youth Week, offering a prize draw of a $100 Warehouse voucher for anyone who ‘likes’ the Treasure Rotorua Facebook page between 19 to 27 May.
“The Treasure Rotorua Facebook page is promoting helpful alcohol safety messages for young people during Youth Week. Young people are an important group to have on our side to help encourage safer communities everywhere,” says Ms Campbell.
