New era in music arrives in New Zealand

Online music streaming is set totake off with the entry of Spotify into the New Zealand market and its partnership with wireless music manufacturer Sonos.

Rumours have been abound about the fully legal online streaming service being available to New Zealanders, and Sonos New Zealand’s Jason Lake says today’s announcement is set to dramatically increase the number of music fans accessing more than 15 million songs available online.

“This is a new era for music here in New Zealand. This is a real game changer in making music available by subscription instead of the traditional option of purchasing music,” Mr Lake said.

The ultimate way to listen to online streaming services is via the Sonos wireless Hifi system, available throughout New Zealand in over 50 specialtyHiFi and leading retail stores.

“Spotify already has 10 million active users globally and we know that New Zealand music lovers are going to be just as enthusiastic.

“The Sonos and Spotify partnership has been successful in the US and Europe and we expect no different in New Zealand, with many existing Sonos users subscribing along with strong demand from new users.

“You will get the best experience from Spotify from using Sonos wireless HiFi systems,” Mr Lake said.

Mr Lake says New Zealand music fans have been heldback from accessing legal online music services for far too long.

"Spotify is the first to offer a massive music collection that can adapt to a listeners needs and stream to devices," he said.

"Internet connectivity has significantly improved, and the devices are good enough, to stream content over the Internet to Sonos systems, rather than having to maintain a library of downloaded content.

"Eventually we will all be paying a subscription for music and we’ll have less music physically stored on devices and home computers."

Sonos and Spotify are offering Sonos New Zealand customers a free 30 day Spotify trial. The service will also be available in Australia.

The service is enhanced by using Apps for Android and iphones and tablets, turning these devices into remotecontrols to access music and build playlists.

Spotify Managing Director Australia and New Zealand Kate Vale says Spotify knows that New Zealand music lovers are going to be just as enthusiastic as those in the US and Europe.
“It’s important to partner with people who love music as much as we do which is why it’s a pleasure to be working with partners such as Sonos to bring a new era in music to New Zealand,” she said.

The Sonos Wireless HiFi System range includes the Sonos Play 3 (RRP $629), the newest all-in-one player and the Sonos Play 5 (RRP $899), which is more suitable for larger rooms. A Sonos Bridge also enables instant wireless setup. Multiple players can be set up in a home or office and are capable of each playing different music.
