NZSO & RNZB Collaboration ‘Booked Out’ in Less than 24 Hours
NZSO & RNZB Collaboration ‘Booked Out’ in Less
than 24 Hours
3,400 free tickets were
snapped up in less than 24 hours to Leaps & Sounds,
the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra (NZSO) and the Royal New
Zealand Ballet (RNZB) performances to be held on Saturday 16
June at the Michael Fowler Centre.
This is the
first collaboration by the two national performing arts
companies in six years and will showcase nine premieres of
short works choreographed by RNZB dancers to music by
composers, all under the age of 25, from the NZSO’s Young
Originals Todd Corporation Young Composers Award.
“We are energised by the public’s response to
these shows and are grateful for such inspired interest and
support,” says Ethan Stiefel, RNZB Artistic
Director.
Leaps & Sounds aims to nurture
young talent and provide audiences with free access to these
works performed by the country’s best musicians and
dancers.
“The speed at which our Wellington
audience has snapped up tickets to this event is impressive
– and certainly backs up recently released results of a
Creative New Zealand survey which says that Wellingtonians
really value and support the arts, “says Christopher
Blake, NZSO Chief Executive.
Several of the
selected compositions were created when the composers were
only 15 years old and, although recorded by the NZSO, have
never before been performed live for an audience. Hamish
McKeich will conduct the NZSO in the two one-hour
performances.
Leaps & Sounds, Saturday 16 June,
4.30pm and 7:30pm, Michael Fowler Centre.
