SOBA City of Ales beer festival

SOBA City of Ales beer festival

SOBA (the Society Of Beer Advocates) is delighted to announce the inaugural City Of Ales beer festival, to be held in Auckland on Saturday 23rd June 2012. The event will be held at the Q Loft (above the Q Theatre) on Queen Street from 2pm-7pm and will showcase all of the craft breweries in New Zealand's largest city. This is the first time that all 12 Auckland region breweries (from Leigh Sawmill in the north to Steam Brewing in the south) have been represented at the same festival.

Festival organiser Martin Bridges said "While Auckland does not have the same density of craft beer bars as Wellington, nor the breweries and hop fields of Nelson, it does have a burgeoning craft beer scene. It is about time that Aucklanders got the chance to celebrate what is in their own backyard. I'm very excited that we will be able to bring together beers from all the craft breweries in the city. It will be an eye-opening event for many people".

The festival is being staged in the Q Loft, a function room above the recently-opened Q Theatre on Queen Street. Patrons will be able to get to and from the event on public transport as there is a bus stop right outside the venue. Tickets are on sale through the Q Theatre box office (+64 9 309 9771) and website (http://www.qtheatre.co.nz/city-ales), include a small tasting glass and tokens for 2 samples of beer & a portion of food. Further tokens can be purchased for cash inside the venue to enable attendees to sample more of the range of up to 25 beers on offer from across the city.
